This one ended up short & sweet. Since my cold I've not played a lot of poker and have gotten away from starting my poker playing day with a HU match. Decided today it was time to get back into that habit. We'd been doing a bit of back and forth most of the sessions. I was betting min to 3 BB when I was SB & usually calling whatever he bet when he was SB.
Hand 10. I have 1350 chips, am BB w/9d 5s. SB limps & I call. Flop 3c 2d 4d. I have an open ended straight draw. I check & SB bets 40 (the pot), I call. Turn 9h. I have paired my 9 as well. I bet 1/2 the pot (60) and SB calls. River 7h. No straight but I have top pair showing. I make a small 60 bet into the 240 pot and after thinking a bit he calls, showing 6s 4c. I win and now have a small chip lead w/1530 chips.
Hand 14. I have 1650 chips, BB w/5c 6h. SB limps & I check. Flop 7s 9h 8h. I hit a straight from the low side. I bet 20 into the 40 pot and SB raises to 80. Interesting. I reraise him to 160 and he goes all-in w/1330 chips. Even more interesting. I wonder what he might have that would beat me at this point and can only think of his having a higher straight with a J or 10. I think about it a bit and decide I'll go with it and call. SB shows 9s 8h, two pair. Looks like all I have to worry about is his hitting a FH. Turn 4c. River Jh. Session over I win!! Nice start to my poker playing day.
