I decided to try a 50 FTP turbo tournament. Only 1st & 2nd win anything. 1st is entry into a 2500 FTP Sat to FTOPS Main Event that the top 75 players gain entry to the FTOPS Main Event, a $500 +$25 entry and as of this morning w/671 players will pay out to 720 players. Not bad. 2nd wins 200 FTP points.
As a side note the host is Alan Cunningham and listed in red as playing is Huckleberry Seed and four other players I'm not familar with. Could be a very exciting tournament playing against some excellent known players.
I did better then I expected and ended up 4th going out w/Ac Ks vs As 5s vs Kh 9s. Guess which hand won? Yup, As 5s, paring their 5. Blinds were 800/1600. I was next to low stack w/4697 chips and low stack had 4061 (the one who won). The top two stacks had 51,597 and 20,645 chips, So even if I had won that 12,183 stack I still had my work cut out for me to make either 1st or 2nd.
I played fairly conservatively. On hand 13 w/Qc 6c as CO, action folded to me, blinds 40/80, and I decided to try and steal the blinds with a 3 BB bet. BT & SB folded, BB called. Flop 10c Jc 6h, pairing my 6 and giving me a flush draw, Q high. BB checked and I decided to check as I had only bottom pair. Turn 7c. I hit my flush, now the only problem is did the BB hit one as well with an Ac or Kc? They bet the 520 pot and I decide to go with my flush and raise them all-in with my last 1025 chips. They call and show a weaker hand than I expected - 10s 5d. I can't be beat and double up my chips to 2570.
A few hands later, hand 16 I have pocket 8's in MP1. EP2 limps in w/80 and I raise to 3 BB's (240), MP1 & HJ fold, the short stack CO goes all-in w/470 chips, BT & SB fold, BB calls and EP2 calls making for a nice 1920 pot and I'm wishing I had something better then pocket 8's. Flop 9c 5c 6d. Only one overcard to my 8's and a possible gutshot straight. BB checks, EP2 goes all-in w/895, I decide to call and take my chances since this is a turbo and I still have 1205 chips left, not great but would still be workable. BB calls. The pot is now 4605! Turn 3d. No help to me. BB checks & I check. River 7s. Wow I hit my straight!!! BB checks and I go all-in with my last 1205 chips. I don't see anything that looks like it might beat me unless one of them had an 8 10 and I don't feel the BB has that. BB folds. The two earlier all-in's have 10c 9h and Ks Qd. I win and now have 5,810 chips!
Hand 20 was a bit costly to me and one I should have folded earlier on. I'm BT w/pocket 6's (6d 6h), blinds are 60/120, I still have my 5810 chips. MP2 limps in w/120, CO calls, I call, and SB goes all-in w/1020 chips. BB folds, MP2 calls, CO calls and I call. This is where I think, with only pocket 6's, I should have folded, though I still have 4,830 chips left. I have to assume that of the other 3 players one of them likely has cards already that can beat my 6's, or high overcards that could beat them if they pair later, but I decide to check out and see if I might hit a set. Flop 2c 3d 3s. Well lower than my 6's but a possible trip out there.
MP2 checks, CO bets all-in w/1255 chips, I call and MP2 folds. I don't see any good reason for that call on my part. With everyone else now all-in I see I'm facing Qc Qh from SB & 10c 10d from CO. Not looking good for me. Turn 7h. River 2h. I lose and am down to 3,575 chips. An UNNECESSARY loss of 2,235 chips that I could well need later!! It's a wonder I made it to 4th at the end! By hand 31 I'm down to 1825 chips. Then get lucky in hand 36.
Hand 36. I'm HJ w/1825 chips and pocket 4's (4s 4d) and blinds are 200/400. I have a max of about 3 rounds left. Seven of us are at the table. Action folds to me and I go all-in. CO (short stack w/600 fewer chips than me) calls all-in, BT folds, SB calls and BB folds. SB shows Ac 7d and CO shows Jh 9h. All overcards to me, but no pairs, yet. Now all I need is a bit of luck. Flop 9s 2s 10s. Interesting, CO pairs their 9 killing my pocket 4's, but an all spade flop gives me a flush draw and neither of them has a spade! Turn Qs. BINGO!!! I have the flush!!! I can't lose!!! River 6s. I now have 5,268 chips and a bit of life again!!
Hand 46. Blinds 250/500. I'm SB w/3568 chips and Jh 9c. Five of us at the table. UTG limps in w/500, CO & BT fold, I call and BB checks. Flop Qd 2h 10d, giving me an open ended straight draw. I check, BB checks and UTG bets 1000 into the 1500 pot. I call and BB folds. Turn Kd. Well that gives me a straight, K high but if UTG has A J they would have a better straight, plus there is now a diamond flush possible. I decide to gamble on my straight and go all-in with my last 2068 chips. If I fold at this point I'm good for only 3 more rounds before I'd blind out. UTG calls showing Kh Qc ... two pair. Great! no flush!! Now I need a river card that doesn't give UTG a FH. River 3h. I win!!! and now have 7,636 chips! I can breathe a bit.
Hand 50 I get a few more chips. Blinds 400/800, I have 7,736 chips, am BB w/10d 8c, 9 players. MP1 & big stack w/28,944 chips limps in, SB calls, I check. Two players are sitting out. Flop 8s 8h 5s. I hit trip 8's ... nice!! Let's see what happens. SB bets all-in w/1,461 chips, I call and MP1 folds. SB shows Jd 5d, bottom pair. Turn Ad. River 2h. I win and now have 11,597 chips.
Hand 56 I have Ah Qd, blinds 500/100, UTG+1. I called a short stack 1,095 all-in bet. MP1 raised to 4000, the rest folded to me and I called. I believe I should have folded at this point with such a large raise after me, AA, KK, AK all beat me. Flop 5h Kc 8c. No help to me and I check. MP1goes all-in w/5710 chips and I have to fold, This cost me 4000 chips that I didn't have to lose!!
Nothing much else happened until the last hand I already talked about at the start. Although I was pleased overall with my play, I'm still making some really terrible calls that cost me chips I can't double up later. Hopefully, over time I'll see improvement and not make those calls in the future.

9 SNG $5 + .50 End 4th 73 hands
Not much to say about this one. I had few decent starting hands and some other hands that I might have limped in with, but other players bet 1st with larger bets then I felt comfortable calling with my cards. By hand 39 we were down to 4 players and I had 1085 chips w/blinds at 60/120. I was short stack. Most of the rest of the session was battling to get enough chips to stay ahead of the blinds and using LOKI for shoving options.
Last hand I was BB w/4h 7s; blinds 120/240 and I had 1250 chips left. SB who was the big stack limped and I called. Flop 6h 7c 2c, giving me top pair. SB bet the pot (480) and I decided to go all-in with my last 1010 chips. I didn't think SB had hit the flop and was hoping they didn't have a big over pair. They called and showed Kd Qs; two over cards. Turn 9h. So far so good. River Qd. I was done.
I could have folded on the flop to the SB's bet but I had, at best, 3 more rounds with only 4 players and no one seemed to be playing in ways that would cause them to knock themselves out, so I felt a pair in the hand was worth the shot to double up.

27 SNG $5 + .50 End 21st Hands 20
Poor play on one hand and a gamble on the last hand. Best hand was KK as BB but no callers. Hand 20 was my big set back and one I should have got out of soon and likely not even entered to begin with.
Hand 20:
Full Tilt No-Limit Hold'em, 5.5 Tournament, 30/60 Blinds (7 handed) - Full-Tilt Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com
MP1 (t1680)
MP2 (t2015)
CO (t950)
Button (t210)
Hero (SB) (t1245)
BB (t7475)
UTG (t1485)
Hero's M: 13.83
Preflop: Hero is SB with 2
, Q
3 folds, CO calls t60, 1 fold, Hero calls t30, BB checks
With one limper I call. I debated not getting in at all but decided I'd take a look at the flop.
Flop: (t180) 9
, Q
, 10
(3 players)
Hero bets t90, BB calls t90, CO calls t90
Flop paired my Q, but with a weak kicker that's not much help and the flop shows straight possibilities for the other players, BUT I decide to punt at it and bet 1/2 the pot (90). Both other players call. Darn, no luck getting either of them to fold.
Turn: (t450) 6
(3 players)
Hero checks, BB bets t180, 1 fold, Hero calls t180
The Turn did NOT help me but I call the BB bet anyway. :-/ Why? I have no good answer.
River: (t810) 3
(2 players)
Hero checks, BB bets t300, Hero calls t300
The River is even less help to me and I check, the BB bets 300 and I call??? Unbelievable!! The only way I could win at this point is if my paired Q held up and I can see no reason to expect that to happen. Of course I lose when the BB shows Q6, two pair, but he had me beat with his Q's kicker anyway.
Total pot: t1410
Results:
Hero had 2
, Q
(one pair, Queens).
BB had Q
, 6
(two pair, Queens and sixes).
Outcome: BB won t1410
Nothing else to say about that hand. I should not have been in there, I should not have been in there, I should not have been in there!!!!
Two hands later, hand 22 I take a shot at getting back some of my chips. I'm the CO w/8s 7s, the action folds to me, and I decide to try and steal the blinds betting 3 BB (180), BT and SB fold, but BB raises all-in w/1680 chips. I decide to gamble and call with my last 435 chips. Maybe I'll get lucky. If not, so be it. I had pretty much given up on this session anyway. BB shows 9h 9d. Not as bad as I expected. Flop Jd 5c 2c. Turn 6d. Some hope here as I now have an open ended straight draw. River 5s. I'm outta there.
Off to watch the Olympics and clear some space on my DVR.

2 HU $2 + .15 End 2nd 22 hands
Sad last hand. Looking at how I played it, maybe I should have gone all-in on the turn and that might have got him to fold. Otherwise I felt I played ok.

At this time I'm down to 500 chips and decide to check which the SB also does.
River: (t720) 7

Nothing scary out there so I decided to go all-in
Total pot: t1720
Results:

Hero had A

(one pair, Aces).
Outcome: SB won t1720
Over & out I'm done.
More 2nd thoughts. Based on SB's betting pre-flop and on the flop, I'm leaning more toward checking on the Turn was the better decision, as if he had something and bet I'd be able to fold. I don't think I had enough information to risk going all-in at that point.
The River all-in bet was probbly not my best choice, though I did feel confident he likely didn't have AK or AQ since he didn't bet on the turn. If I'd checked and he made a big bet, I'd have been able to fold and though short stacked still be in the game.

2 HU $2 + .15 End 1st 85 hands
I was playing this HU just to get a HU game before the Tucson Open. I started it too close to the TO and was distracted part of the time looking to see if TO was going to happen. It didn't, so I was able to get back to the HU's. I had mixed play and in some ways was lucky to win. I wasn't aggressive enough a lot of the time which gave my opponent opportunities to hit something and get my chips. Fortunately, for me he didn't.
Hand 2. I had pocket A's, A♠ A♥ was BB. SB opened with a bet of 60 and I raised to 120, SB called. Flop 3♣ Q♣ 8♦. I checked and SB bet 120, I raised to 240 and they folded winning the 480 pot.
Hand 28. This one took me below 1000 chips. I was BB w/A♥ J♥. SB bet 30 and I raised to 90, SB called. Flop 2♠ 6♠ 10♠. Wrong suit for me. I bet 120 into the 180 pot and SB calls. Turn Q♣. I check and SB bets 330, I fold. By hand 46 I was down to 710 chips. Then cards started falling my way.
Hand 49. I was SB w/ 9♠ 10♦. I limp in opening w/40, BB calls. Flop 8♣ Q♦ 7♥, giving me an open ended straight draw. BB checks and I bet the pot (80), BB calls. Turn 6♥. I now have a straight 6-10! BB checks and I bet 1/2 the pot (120) and BB calls. River 10♣. Unless BB has something like J 9 my straight should win. BB checks again and I bet 300 into the 480 pot and BB calls, showing Q♥ 2♣. A much weaker hand to be calling me than I expected. I win the 1080 pot and feel like I'm back in the game w/1230 chips.
Hand 56. Another where I was lucky on the River and that SB had something as well. A position I've been in many times .... I hit the River with something good BUT it makes an even better hand for my opponent!! I'm BB w/1350 chips and A♥ 6♠. SB opens with a 3 BB (120) bet and I call. Flop 5♦ 7♣ 8♥. I have a straight draw. I check and SB bets 120 into the 240 pot. I call. Turn 2♠. No real help to me. I check again and so does the SB, which is nice as I don't really want to put more money into the pot at this time. River 4♣. I get my straight!!! I bet the pot (480) and the SB calls. They show 4♦ 4♠ hitting a set. I win the 1440 pot and am ahead in the chip count!! We did a bit of back & forth until the last hand.
Hand 85. I'm SB w/2160 chips and K♦ 10♦. I open with a 3 BB bet (150) and BB calls. Flop K♥ 3♣ 7♣. I have top pair. BB checks and I bet 175 into the 300 pot and they go all-in w/their last 690 chips. I think briefly about it and decide to call. They show 10♣ 8♣, giving them a flush draw. So now I hold my breath for the turn & river. Turn A♥. River 5♠. Game over. I win. Phew!
I decided to try using the card symbols this time but it is a lot of extra work, particularly since I have to change the font color to red for the heart & diamond every time I use them even though I'm copying a colored heart or diamond character I'd already changed to red. The copy doesn't hold the color. So I think I'll go back to the letter notation unless I can find an easier way to work with the card symbols.

Rush . 9 player 05/.10 51 Hands Up $1.39 Blinds ate $0.75
Played this session just to check and see if HUD was working for Rush sessions w/PT beta 30.6. It is working ok once again!! I had minor ups & downs along the way. My best hand was 43 with pocket Q's.
Hand 43. I'm HJ w/Qh Qc and $9.67. Action folds to me and I bet .30, CO w/$10.60 calls, BT, SB, & BB fold. Flop 8c 10s 3h. Nothing obviously dangerous to my Q's. I bet .25 into the .70 pot. CO raises to .50 and I call. I'm wondering if he might have a set. Turn 9c. That suggest a possible straight and maybe a flush draw (I didn't think of that until after the hand). I check and CO bets $1. Darn!! I decide to take a chance and call. River 8h. Well, no flush, but beside a possible straight , possible trip 8's, or worse quad 8's. Again I check and CO checks too. That was encouraging. CO shows Ac Jc and I win the pot of $3.50.
It looks like I was following that pattern of not giving the other player credit for having a better hand (well at least wishing/hoping my hand was still better), except this time they didn't and I won. I'm ok with calling the .50 raise, but not so sure about calling the $1 on the turn. Yes, I still had top pair, but the board was showing a possible already made straight and a possible flush draw. If he had bet say another $1 or more on the River it's hard to say I would have folded BUT I sure would have thought about it before I called, if I called. I guess that's some improvement. :-)
Nothing much for the rest of the session. I stopped after 51 hands as my test was completed and it was nice I was ahead. Made up for my HU's loss.
Hand 43. I'm HJ w/Qh Qc and $9.67. Action folds to me and I bet .30, CO w/$10.60 calls, BT, SB, & BB fold. Flop 8c 10s 3h. Nothing obviously dangerous to my Q's. I bet .25 into the .70 pot.
2 HU $1 + .10 End 2nd 11 hands
Was away since last Friday and haven't played any poker since last Wednesday!! Had wanted to get a couple sessions in earlier this evening but was watching the Olympics and never got back here.
This was just a quickie HU's to make sure HUD was working OK with PT beta 30.6. It was. Things were ok till the last hand. I was down 60 chips at that point and had pocket J's.
Hand 11. I'm BB w/Jh Jd. SB limps in w/20 and I raise to 60, SB calls. Flop 3c 9d 4h. Nothing scary for my J's at this point. I bet 1/2 the pot (60) and SB raises me to 120. Uh oh, do they have a set? I reraise them to 350 (intended 360) and they call. I did not like that. Turn 4s. Now a trip 4's a possibility. I check and they bet 820 and I call. I called mainly because I want to get this session over so I can check out and see if Rush HUD is working again and it's only $1.10, which is why I chose this min buy-in level. I feel pretty sure they must have hit something. River Qd. 1st over card to my J's. I check and SB goes all-in w/330 and I call w/my last 210. They surprise me showing 3d Qh. If not for the river I had that one! They bet awfully hard having just bottom pair. Likely a newbie, at least I hope so, or they are in for some nasty surprises along the way in the future if they keep playing like that.
