TOUR $1 Main Event Satellite 5 FTP T End 82 1 hand

Well this one will be easy to write up. I didn't make it pass the 1st hand. :-) Which really is ok as I didn't really want to play at the moment anyway, but the 90 person was almost full, and at 5 FTP, well, why not! I had Kd Jc, was in MP2 and the action folded to me. I bet 2 BB 60, action folded to the BTN who went all-in with their 300 chips. I thought about it and decided to call. I didn't necessarily think I had the best cards, but if I was a little lucky I might have two good cards. BTN showed As Qs. At least I had my two good cards. :-) Flop 4c 10c 7c. Wow, I now have a flush draw & the BTN has no clubs!! I felt hopeful. :-) Turn 4s. River 3s. No luck and I'm outta there. Which is really ok as I was just getting the program set up on my 'puter to play some $5 SNG's in a bit after I eat.

BUT WAIT THAT'S NOT ALL. Since I was being hasty when I signed up, I didn't realize what I getting myself into. I made the rash assumption that the "$1 Main Event Satellite" would lead me eventually to a $1 or something tournament. Anyway I decided to check out what I was satellite-ing into. This Satellite had 2 entries into the "$1 Main Event Seat Qualifier" that I could enter for just $1 + .10. Not a biggie win. If I came in 3rd I got 10 FTP points. The "$1 Main Event Seat Qualifier" can have a max of 100,000 players and currently has 16,479 players and takes place 7 days from now. Still no bells rang for me. I noticed this one would have 5 winners to enter into the next tournament, which I thought would also not be much, then I noticed it said that the prize pool for this one is $60,000. WHAT????? So I click to find out what that next tournament is. Well that one the "$12,000 Main Event Winners" tournament. It has 14 winners who will win the $12,000 Prize package and it takes place in 99 days with a max of 1000 players. They win a $12,000 package to the 2010 Main event in Las Vegas!! WOW. Real serious winnings could come from just an investment of 5 FTP points!!! :-)

This is the link to FT's web page with the various events they are running that can end you up with that $12,000 package: Full Tilt Events for $12,000 Main Event Package

And here is the link that describes what that $12,000 package contains:  What is in the $12000 Package?
That's it for now.

TOUR Round 1 Freeroll 8941 End 793 118 hands

Turned out by the time I finished writing up the last session there was another freeroll starting in 30 minutes or so, so I decided to join that one. I lasted longer this time and again went out with pocket A's, and again in a situation where I should have folded after the flop of Jc Jh 5s instead of going all-in, but I decided to take my chances neither of the two other earlier callers had a J. Would have been a nice triple up.

Hand 118. I'm the SB w/5790 chips, blinds 100/200. UTG bets 200, UTG+1 raises to 600, action folds to me and I raise to 1800, SB calls, BB folds, and UTG calls. The SB has 33,979 chips & UTG has 32,602 chips. Maybe if I'd gone all-in at the start they'd not have called, but I actually wanted them too so I could double up if things went well. Flop Jc Jh 5s. Do not like seeing those J's and I debate if either them might have one of the remaining J's. Anyway, as I said above, I decide to go for it and bet all-in with my last 4090 chips. SB folds & UTG calls showing  Kh Jd. My worst fear met. I'm hoping for another Ace. Turn Ks. Well another Ace would help me!!! River 5d. I'm done.

Had one other very nice hand. I had pocket K's and flopped quad K's!! Was able to double up on that one.

Hand 96 I had pocket K's but no callers. then hand 97 I got them again and was able to double up that time.

One other interesting situation. Hand 54 a player had pocket 2's to a large stacks AK. The 2's hit a set on the flop and he doubled up. Hand 55 right after that I had pocket 2's and I wondered could we have two pocket 2 sets in a row??? & YES WE CAN!! & the same large stack player lost again this time holding pocket 5's. I didn't double up that time because I didn't want to scare him away, but upped my chip total by about a 3rd.

TOUR Round 1 Freeroll 7871 End 2219 52 hands

Wasn't sure what I wanted to play and saw this freeroll in late reg. Top 250 are entered into the $1,000 Weekly Freeroll, that already had 17,345 entries (top 30,000), with a $100 1st prize. Not big bucks here but a chance to play in a large field and maybe experiment a bit. I tended to play on the aggressive side when I could, but there were a lot of all-in's that kept me out of a lot of hands when I had only marginal cards that I'd have liked to check cheap flops on. Overall I did well and had a little over 11,000 chips at the end. The last hand I had pocket AA's but the board really said I should fold at the end. My opponent had been high stack and taken a couple of big hits and made calls and bets with some not very good hands. I'd hoped this might be one of them but it wasn't. His cards hit, my A's didn't.

Hand 52. I'm BB w/pocket A's (Ah Ad). I'm hoping that this player who has been opening with around 5000 opening bets does so this time as I finally have some cards to challenge him with. Action folds to him and this time he only limps in w/a bet of 60. CO calls. I'm thinking it doesn't look like I'll get much out of this hand, SB folds and I raise to 3 BB (180) hoping maybe that will encourage him to bet more. He & CO call. Flop 10s 6s 6d. Hmm, might he have trips? I check and he bets 1680, CO folds, and I decide to just call. I'm not sure if he has something or not but decide to play cautious.

I don't know if a strong reraise would have stopped him or not as I've seen him go big just hoping on a draw with very weak cards. Turn 10c. Board has two pairs. Not good for me. Again I check and so does he. Hmmm, what might that mean? River Kh. The only card I wanted to see on the River was really another Ace to give me a nice FH. As is, with those cards showing and knowing a bit about how he has been playing he could have hit anywhere. I bet a little over a 3rd of the pot (1650 into 3930) and he goes all in. Since I didn't check the River, which I feel would have been my best choice, then I should have folded his all-in bet. Instead I decide to gamble that he doesn't have anything and I call. Too bad. He shows 9c 10h. He had a FH on the Turn and just checked it. However, from the flop it wasn't looking that good for my A's and my best bet would have been to just get out of that hand and lick my wounds.

Except for how I handled that last hand, as I said earlier, I felt I played decently.

TOUR 54 50 FTP Sat to $750K satelllite End 5th 79 hands

Decided to try the 54 player 50 FTP tourney. 1st is entry, 2nd is 200 FTP. That's it. It was a fairly wild session, not so much by me but the other players. Lots of Europeans who liked to bet. Overall I did ok and the end came when my KJo vs 77 vs 33 couldn't hit a pair.

Hand 28. Seven players at table. I'm CO w/As Qh, 1650 chips. Action folds to HJ who bets 2 BB (160), I debate raising but decide to just call, everyone else folds. Flop 6h 4h Ah. Pairs my Ace and gives me a flush draw Qh in my hand. HJ bets 160 into the 440 pot and I call. Don't want to scare him away. Turn 10d. HJ checks and I bet 320 into the 760 pot. HJ folds. I now have 2090 chips.

Hand 36 Seven players at table. I lose a few chips trying to steal the blinds. I'm BTN w/8c Jc. Action folds to me and I bet 2 BB (240) (maybe a 3 BB bet would have been better), SB & BB call. Flop 7h 7s 5s. No real help to me. SB & BB check and I make a weak 120 bet into the 720 pot. The sort of method to my madness is, that weak bet might make them think I have trip 7's. SB calls & BB folds. Turn 3c. Still no help to me. SB checks & I do same. A continuation bet might have helped here but I didn't want to give up more chips at this point if the BB called. I wasn't sure I could get him off his hand. River 4c. SB bets the pot (960). Now they might have nothing with that big of a bet or they actually did hit something. We'll never know as I folded at that point. WELL I WAS WRONG. They showed me what they had: 5d 7d. They'd flopped a FH!!!! I was lucky I'd not been more aggressive that hand!! As you can see from my patter here I never even thought about the possibility of them having a FH!!

Hand 45. Five players at table. I'm SB w/Ad 5s and after I post SB I have 980 chips left. Action folds to BTN who limps in w/160, I call and BB checks. Flop  Ac Jc 7d. I hit my Ace but have a very weak kicker. With only 900 chips left it's either fold or go all-in, I choose the later. BB calls & BTN folds. Uh Oh what am I up against? BB shows 8h Jd, middle pair. That makes me feel better. Turn 3c. One card to go. River 5c. I now have two pair, but I'd have won just with my Ace. I've doubled up to 2280 chips!

Hand 69. Seven players. Blinds 150/300. I'm BB and have 1660 chps left after posting the BB. I have 7h 8c. Action folds to SB who limps in and I check. Flop 4c 2s 2d. SB & I both check. Turn 7c. I've paired my 7 and show top pair. SB checks and I bet 300 into the 600 pot. SB calls. Hmmm, do they have a deuce? River 3s. Well all I have is a pair of 7's. SB checks & I decide to do the same. SB shows pocket 5's. My 7's are good and I now have 2560 chips. Next hand turned out to be a nice one for me.

Hand 70. I'm SB with 10s Jc. Actions folds to me and I limp in to the BB who has 21,016 chips. They raise to 900 and I figure the only way to fight them is to go all-in and I do. They call. I was hoping they were just tryng to get me out there with my weak limp, but they must have something. I'm hoping for two good cards. They show 8s 9s. I have two over cards!!! Flop Ks 8d 5h. They pair their 8. Turn 9c. They pair their 9. They now have two pair. :-/ However I do have and open ended straight draw. River 7d. Lady luck came my way and I hit the straight and double up to 5120 chips.

Hand 78 I should have folded. Five players left. I'm the BTN and have Ad 6d. UTG folds, CO bets 1400 (2 1/2 BB's). This is the point where I should have folded, but instead I decided to gamble on maybe a diamond nut flush showing up. SB & BB fold. Flop 2h 10c Ks. No help to me. CO bets 3120 (the chips I have left) into the 3400 pot. I, of course fold, but that was costly. I still have 3120 chips left. One other player has 3400 chips. Two of the other three have 18,000+ and the chip leader has 33,000+ chips.

Hand 79. I'm CO w/Ks Jh. UTG limps in w/400, I decide to take a shot at it and go all in. If they all fold I pick up 1000 chips and if not hopefully my KJ will do something helpful for me. SB calls, BB folds, and UTG calls. What am I in for? SB shows pocket 7's and UTG has pocket 3's. I have overcards to both of them. Better than I expected. Now can I hit any of my cards? Flop 9d 10s 4d. Turn 4s. One last chance. River 6h. No I can't!!! :-/ So I'm done.

TOUR 38 200FTP T 5 min blinds End 13th 45 hands

Decided  to try a 200 FTP Sat to the $200K Double Deuce. Four places are paid. 1st get entry to the $200 K DD, 2nd 1600 FTP, 3rd 960 FTP, and 4th 640 FTP. It was Turbo, but the blinds were only 1 minute less than the usual 6 min blinds SNG's I usually play. I tended to play a bit too passive, limping in to see if I could see some cheap flops and getting raised pre-flop 2x-3x my limp that I felt I best fold to.

Hand 2 in CO position w/Qc 10d. Action folded to me so I limped in. CO & BTN folded, SB called & BB checked. Flop 8s 9s 7s. I have an open ended straight draw, but the flop shows a possible flush, maybe even a straight flush. SB & BB check. I decide to bet the 90 pot & see if that scares anyone away. SB folds but BB raises me to 180. I decide to assume his check raise may mean something and fold, besides there is no way I could beat a flush. Down a few chips, but I gave it a shot.

Hand 13. Seven players at table. I'm SB w/Qc Jd. Action folds to HJ who limps, CO calls, BTN folds, I call & BB checks. Flop  Qd Js 4s. I have top two pair. I decide to check to see what the others will do, BB checks, HJ bets 100 into the 200 pot, CO calls and I raise to 200. Both the HJ & CO call. Turn 6d. Nothing that looks harmful to me. I decide to bet aggressively this time and bet 400 into the 800 pot. Again both the HJ & CO call. Hmmm, what might they have? I'm assuming no sets, maybe flush or straight draws. River 6h. First card that's felt scary. Certainly no flush or straights out there but could that 6 make for trips? I think about it and decide, I don't really think either of them have trip 6's. I only have 640 chips left and go all-in. If they can beat me, well ok. Both fold and I win the 2000 pot. Looks like my assumptions were correct.

Nothing else seemed worth playing till the next hand. Occasionally I had some cards I'd like to play to see the flop but others either bet, before or after me, more than I wanted to risk  Blinds had gone up to 80/160 and as BB I finally got some cards to play with.

Hand 45. Six players at the table. I'm BB w/Ac Qd and 1225 chips after I post the BB. HJ & CO limp in, SB folds and I decide to go all-in with my last 1385 chips. I'm actually 13 out of 13 at this point. HJ folds but CO who is Big Stack w/11,586 chips calls. They show 6h 6c. I have two over cards. Flop 10h 8d Ah. I pair my Ace!! Yeah. Two cards to go. Turn 3d. One card to go. River 6s. UGH!!! Instead of nicely doubling up I'm outta there!!

Overall I'm not unhappy with most of my play this session. I need to think more about those times I limped and wasn't able to get to a flop. Maybe I should be betting a few of those stronger or not at all.

Tucson Open $24 + $2, 5 players End 4th 183 hands 3/24/10

Mixed play on my part. My chip count had become very low at one point I had two lucky draws to get back into the game again. Last big setback was hand 181 where I decided to take a chance with my K9s post flop with an all-in bet. It was called and I was up against KJo. That knocked me back to 119 chips.

One problem I find I have is at a certain point where I've not been getting any decent cards and the blinds get larger I'm find myself not sure what to do and tend to play weak and that doesn't help the matter. In the end as I got some chips again I started playing more aggressively and that made for a better game for me.

In hand 2 it looked like I might be able to pick up a few chips early & the result was, yes, I did pick up a few chips.....seven!! I had Ad Qh as CO and opened betting 3 BB (90), rest folded and BB called. Flop Jd Ks 10c. Wheeee nut high straight!!!! BB checks and I bet 75 into the 195 pot, BB calls. Turn 6c. Nothing scary. BB checks again and I bet 240 into the 345 pot, BB calls again. Hmm, they're still here. River Kh. That's a little scary as the board is now paired. Could BB have a FH? Maybe. Top 2 pair or AK might have kept them in with only checking and calling my bets. I bet 405 into the 825 pot and BB raises me to 810. Rats, what does that mean? It's not a big raise, just twice mine and it only cost me another 405 into a 2040 pot. Maybe a modest bet so he can get a few more chips from me if he has a FH feeling if he bet large I'd probably fold? OK, I bite and hope for the best. BB shows As Qd. We chop!!! Well it's better than losing but I was really hoping to pick up more than 7 chips. :-)

Hand 4. A small loss. I'm BB w/10c 3s., SB limps & I call. Flop  3d 10d 5d. I have top pair BUT there's 3 diamonds on the board. SB bets 30, I raise to 60 to see what they'll do, and they call. Turn 4d. Another diamond. :-/. SB & I check. River Qc. At least it's not another diamond. SB bets 60 and though I doubt I my paired 10 is any good, I call. SB shows 2d Jh. A deuce carries the day.

Hand 8. I pick up a few. I'm UTG w/pocket 8's (8d 8h) and open w/a 2 BB bet (60), CO folds, BTN, SB & BB call. Flop  3d 5h 2d. SB checks, BB bets 60 into the 240 pot, I raise to 120 and everyone calls. Hmmmm, everyone! Straights? Straight draws? Turn Jc. 1st over card to my 8's but no help to a straight draw. We all check. Hmmm again. Let's see what the River brings. River 10h. Another overcard, no help for a straight draw. SB, BB check to me, I check as well as does the BTN. Being a fresh day when I'm continuing this, I'm not sure why I didn't make a bet, but likely because there were a lot ways I could be beat, I took the safer course. .BTN has Ad 7s, SB has Kd 7d, and BB has 6c 5s. I win, nobody hit their draws and take the 720 pot and have 3487 chips. Should I have been more aggressive on the Turn and/or the River? Maybe. I let them, as they let me, get free cards that could have beat me.

Hand 43. This is only here for its sort of cuteness. I'm BB w/Kc 8d, all fold to SB who limps in and I check. Flop 2s 4h 6h.  We both check. Turn 10h. Possible flush out there. Again we both check. River 9h. Four hearts now showing. We both check again. SB shows Ks 2d, has paired his deuce and wins. The cute part is that this is the same person who beat me before and had the 2d in the diamond flush win  I wrote about here up above. I suppose if I'd made a bet along the way I might have won the pot which though small, would have helped me show a bit of aggression instead of so much passivity I'd been showing much of the time.

Hand 63. I played a mix of aggressive and passive in this one. Four players left, the bubble is here. I'm BB w/Ad 9h. CO folds, BT bets 2 BB (120), BB folds, I call. Flop  6h 10 s Ac. My Ace pairs. I bet 150 into the 270 pot, BTN calls. Turn 8h. I have a gutshot straight draw now too. I didn't make a c bet but just checked and the BTN bets 200 into the 570 pot, I called. River Js. I make a very small bet of 60 into the 970 pot. Not sure why I bet so small, but likely wasn't confident that my 9 kicker was that good and there are straight possibilities out there and the BTN made a relatively strong Turn bet. BTN calls and shows Ah 4c, having a weaker kicker with his Ace than I did. I win the 1090 pot and back to a little over our starting chips, 3067.

Hand 108. I'm BB w/Ad 2d and only have 972 chips left. No biggies to here, but some small betting and the blinds have been wearing me down. CO & BTN limp in w/120, I go all in, BB reraises all-in w/4000 chips, CO & BTN fold.. Not that I really have much of a choice, but what have I got myself into here? BB shows  pocket Q's (Qs Qd). At least I have an overcard and if I get lucky maybe I'll hit the diamond nut flush. Flop As 5c Jh. Nice!! my Ace hit!! Turn Js. One card to go.10s. I win and double up!! I have 2304 chips and am back in the game!! I really needed that one.

Hand 122 I'm back down to 1104 chips, am UTG w/8c 9d.  I decide to just limp in, though with my chip count I might just as well have gone all-in. I don't really have much bargaining power at this point. BTN folds, SB calls and BB raises to 480. Well the BB has put me in the position where I should have been when I started and I reraise all-in. I don't really expect him to fold, but maybe he will; he may have just been putting some extra pressure on me. SB folds and BB calls showing Ad 9c. I only have one good card .... my 8. Flop 8d 5c 9s. The poker gods are with me, at least for the flop. Turn Ks. One card to go. River 2h. Phew. One more time I double up and am back in the game with 2328 chips.

Hand 132. Finally some nice cards. I'm SB with pocket K's (Kc Kh). UTG opens with a 2 BB bet (320), BTN folds, I raise to 720, BB folds, and UTG calls. Flop 5h 10s Qc. So far so good as long as the UTG hasn't hit a set or have A's. I decide to try a check raise, expecting UTG to bet. They don't disappoint and bet 600 into the 1600 pot and I reraise all-in with 1888 chips. UTG folds. I now have 4088 chips. Top stack has 5901 and the other two stacks are 2063 and 2548.

Hand 146. This hand I should have just stayed out of at least after the flop. I'm UTG w/8c 10c and decide to limp in w/200, BTN folds, SB calls & BB checks. Flop 6c 4c 2c. I have a flush draw but only 8 high. My 8 10 didn't really do much of anything. SB checks, BB bets 200 into the 600 pot, I call and SB folds. Turn 4s. Again BB bets 200 into the 1000 pot, and I call. What do I expect? The odds of my having any kind of decent outcome look pretty slim but the bets have been small and I can't seem to fold. River Jh. One more time BB bets 200 into the 1400 pot, and I finally decide it's time to get out of there, but it has cost me 600 chips!

Hand 152. We are still four players. Big stack has 6358 chips, I'm small stack w/2488 chips and the other two have 3208 and 2946 chips. I'm the SB w/3s 4c. UTG folds, BTN limps in w/200 bet, I call and BB checks. Flop 4d Js 6h. I have bottom pair. I'm 1st to bet and decide to be aggressive about it and bet 400 into the 600 pot. BB calls and BTN folds. Turn 3d. I get lucky and now have bottom two pair BUT the board does show a possible straight. I press forward and bet 900 into the 1400 pot. BB calls again. Not sure I like that but it is building up the pot for one of us! River 8s. Not a card I want to see as it provides for more straight options. Staying aggressive and since I only have 988 chips left, I decide to go for broke and bet all-in. BB calls leaving them w/720 chips. Uh oh, do they really have that straight???? They show Jd 5d, only a pair and probably going for the diamond flush draw. Woo Whooo I have 5176 chips and it looks good that I might make the money. Ah, but it's not over!!

Hand 156. I'm SB w/2c Jd. BB has 200 chips out and only 320 left. Action folds to me and I bet 400, and as I expected the BB raises all-in and I call. BB shows pocket 9's (9d 9s). I have one over card. Flop 3s Js 2s. I pair my J and duece and feel good about that and I don't think I really noticed that there were 3 spades there and that the BB had a flush draw. Turn As. Bingo for the BB he now has a nut flush. I have one last chance, I need a J or 2 on the River for a FH. River Qh. BB doubles up and can breathe a little. I'm still in pretty good shape though. Well I'd been lucky a few times on early hands, I guess it was my turn to be on the other end of it. :-)

Hand 181. Blinds 120/240/ante 25. Big stack has 6668 chips, I have 3026 chips and the other two have 2932 and 2324 chips. This is a hand where I should have said, relax and be patience for a bit longer, no one is in big danger of going out at this point, and neither am I!! Ah, but I didn't listen to that advice. I'm the BTN w/Kc 9c. UTG folds and I limp in, SB calls & BB checks. Flop 6s 5d Kd. I was hoping to see some clubs but that didn't happen. I do have top pair with a so-so kicker. SB checks and BB bets the pot of 820. I decide to be very aggressive and raise all-in, something I certainly didn't need to do. I was gambling he didn't have a K or if he did he'd have a lower kicker than mine, or that he was just betting to get me out of the hand. He calls and shows Ks Jd. I was wrong!! Turn 10h. River 2h. I'm down to 119 chips and a couple of hand later I'm out of there. Just a little bit of patience and waiting for better cards for that kind of aggressive play and I'd still be playing.

Anyway, it was a fun night. We haven't play for a few weeks. It would have nice to have more folks as coming in 3rd you're short $2 of the buy-in. Hope I learned something about my play!
