Wednesday Monthly Poker Tournament

We had a nice crowd tonight, 30 plus or so, and though there was storming around some areas in Tucson, all was cozy, warm, and pleasant inside.

Last month I mentioned I came in 2nd. Well, I believe I did a 2nd again, but this time a penultimate one!! One fellow at my table busted out 1st. I don't know if anyone else busted before I did shortly after our 1st break. One plus point to that is I never got around to buying a 7 & 7; $$$ saved.

There are a number of reasons why I was ousted so soon. Some of it the cards, where I ended up with something decent only to find the other player had a "better" decent hand. Cards again, very few really good hands to play, with most of them being so-so. Others relate to my play. I went for an open ended straight draw a couple of times and a nut high flush draw that didn't hit. In themselves that would be OK, but other players were betting their chips and I had to call them to stay in eating up more of my chips then I liked. Then not playing close enough attention to the board, so when I was beat by a flush, I'd not even noticed that possibility was there. Not winning ways to play.

However, the biggest problem I had tonight was I wasn't really focused on the game and what was happening with the players as well as with the cards.I paid too much attention to what my cards were with little thought of what the other player might have that could be beat me, and only rarely folded when my good cards didn't hit the flop.

Was fun though and I'll be back again in September!

One sort of plus of ending so early, was what I found when I got back home. In the Red Garter area there were signs that some rain had fallen, and as I headed North it looked like it had rained harder. Then as I was heading up La Cholla from River I could see the red lights flashing. At the TMC entrance and Orange Grove just the flashing red lights. I stopped at Albertsons and when I was checking out the cashier mentioned they had loss their electric earlier in the evening for a very short time. That doesn't happen much in my area. Shopping done, off I head to home.

I pull into the 2nd entrance and see all is dark and an electric utility truck is blocking the roadway. Hmmmm. I turn around and enter the 1st entrance and electric is fine there. So I think they must have some kind of problem in that front area. As I drive toward my area I notice, OH, no lights on that side, and so it was up to my place and beyond. WOW a power failure and I have a half gallon of ice cream in my trunk! Grrrrr. Enter my place, grab a flashlight, look at the clock on my range and see it stopped at 6:25PM. Uh Oh ! I put the groceries away and decide to head out to pick up some ice and as I head to my car, I see lights on!! Joy!!! I head back to my apartment and indeed the electric is back; my frig is humming away!!

If I had played well tonight and got back between 10PM & 11PM, I'd not have known it happened until I saw one of my digital clocks blinking, and even then I'd have assumed it was just a quick blip, not a 2 1/2 hour outage.

That's enough for tonight. I installed PT4 yesterday (Tuesday) and will add some comments on it soon.
