Mixed play on my part. My chip count had become very low at one point I had two lucky draws to get back into the game again. Last big setback was hand 181 where I decided to take a chance with my K9s post flop with an all-in bet. It was called and I was up against KJo. That knocked me back to 119 chips.
One problem I find I have is at a certain point where I've not been getting any decent cards and the blinds get larger I'm find myself not sure what to do and tend to play weak and that doesn't help the matter. In the end as I got some chips again I started playing more aggressively and that made for a better game for me.
In hand 2 it looked like I might be able to pick up a few chips early & the result was, yes, I did pick up a few chips.....seven!! I had Ad Qh as CO and opened betting 3 BB (90), rest folded and BB called. Flop Jd Ks 10c. Wheeee nut high straight!!!! BB checks and I bet 75 into the 195 pot, BB calls. Turn 6c. Nothing scary. BB checks again and I bet 240 into the 345 pot, BB calls again. Hmm, they're still here. River Kh. That's a little scary as the board is now paired. Could BB have a FH? Maybe. Top 2 pair or AK might have kept them in with only checking and calling my bets. I bet 405 into the 825 pot and BB raises me to 810. Rats, what does that mean? It's not a big raise, just twice mine and it only cost me another 405 into a 2040 pot. Maybe a modest bet so he can get a few more chips from me if he has a FH feeling if he bet large I'd probably fold? OK, I bite and hope for the best. BB shows As Qd. We chop!!! Well it's better than losing but I was really hoping to pick up more than 7 chips. :-)
Hand 4. A small loss. I'm BB w/10c 3s., SB limps & I call. Flop 3d 10d 5d. I have top pair BUT there's 3 diamonds on the board. SB bets 30, I raise to 60 to see what they'll do, and they call. Turn 4d. Another diamond. :-/. SB & I check. River Qc. At least it's not another diamond. SB bets 60 and though I doubt I my paired 10 is any good, I call. SB shows 2d Jh. A deuce carries the day.
Hand 8. I pick up a few. I'm UTG w/pocket 8's (8d 8h) and open w/a 2 BB bet (60), CO folds, BTN, SB & BB call. Flop 3d 5h 2d. SB checks, BB bets 60 into the 240 pot, I raise to 120 and everyone calls. Hmmmm, everyone! Straights? Straight draws? Turn Jc. 1st over card to my 8's but no help to a straight draw. We all check. Hmmm again. Let's see what the River brings. River 10h. Another overcard, no help for a straight draw. SB, BB check to me, I check as well as does the BTN. Being a fresh day when I'm continuing this, I'm not sure why I didn't make a bet, but likely because there were a lot ways I could be beat, I took the safer course. .BTN has Ad 7s, SB has Kd 7d, and BB has 6c 5s. I win, nobody hit their draws and take the 720 pot and have 3487 chips. Should I have been more aggressive on the Turn and/or the River? Maybe. I let them, as they let me, get free cards that could have beat me.
Hand 43. This is only here for its sort of cuteness. I'm BB w/Kc 8d, all fold to SB who limps in and I check. Flop 2s 4h 6h. We both check. Turn 10h. Possible flush out there. Again we both check. River 9h. Four hearts now showing. We both check again. SB shows Ks 2d, has paired his deuce and wins. The cute part is that this is the same person who beat me before and had the 2d in the diamond flush win I wrote about here up above. I suppose if I'd made a bet along the way I might have won the pot which though small, would have helped me show a bit of aggression instead of so much passivity I'd been showing much of the time.
Hand 63. I played a mix of aggressive and passive in this one. Four players left, the bubble is here. I'm BB w/Ad 9h. CO folds, BT bets 2 BB (120), BB folds, I call. Flop 6h 10 s Ac. My Ace pairs. I bet 150 into the 270 pot, BTN calls. Turn 8h. I have a gutshot straight draw now too. I didn't make a c bet but just checked and the BTN bets 200 into the 570 pot, I called. River Js. I make a very small bet of 60 into the 970 pot. Not sure why I bet so small, but likely wasn't confident that my 9 kicker was that good and there are straight possibilities out there and the BTN made a relatively strong Turn bet. BTN calls and shows Ah 4c, having a weaker kicker with his Ace than I did. I win the 1090 pot and back to a little over our starting chips, 3067.
Hand 108. I'm BB w/Ad 2d and only have 972 chips left. No biggies to here, but some small betting and the blinds have been wearing me down. CO & BTN limp in w/120, I go all in, BB reraises all-in w/4000 chips, CO & BTN fold.. Not that I really have much of a choice, but what have I got myself into here? BB shows pocket Q's (Qs Qd). At least I have an overcard and if I get lucky maybe I'll hit the diamond nut flush. Flop As 5c Jh. Nice!! my Ace hit!! Turn Js. One card to go.10s. I win and double up!! I have 2304 chips and am back in the game!! I really needed that one.
Hand 122 I'm back down to 1104 chips, am UTG w/8c 9d. I decide to just limp in, though with my chip count I might just as well have gone all-in. I don't really have much bargaining power at this point. BTN folds, SB calls and BB raises to 480. Well the BB has put me in the position where I should have been when I started and I reraise all-in. I don't really expect him to fold, but maybe he will; he may have just been putting some extra pressure on me. SB folds and BB calls showing Ad 9c. I only have one good card .... my 8. Flop 8d 5c 9s. The poker gods are with me, at least for the flop. Turn Ks. One card to go. River 2h. Phew. One more time I double up and am back in the game with 2328 chips.
Hand 132. Finally some nice cards. I'm SB with pocket K's (Kc Kh). UTG opens with a 2 BB bet (320), BTN folds, I raise to 720, BB folds, and UTG calls. Flop 5h 10s Qc. So far so good as long as the UTG hasn't hit a set or have A's. I decide to try a check raise, expecting UTG to bet. They don't disappoint and bet 600 into the 1600 pot and I reraise all-in with 1888 chips. UTG folds. I now have 4088 chips. Top stack has 5901 and the other two stacks are 2063 and 2548.
Hand 146. This hand I should have just stayed out of at least after the flop. I'm UTG w/8c 10c and decide to limp in w/200, BTN folds, SB calls & BB checks. Flop 6c 4c 2c. I have a flush draw but only 8 high. My 8 10 didn't really do much of anything. SB checks, BB bets 200 into the 600 pot, I call and SB folds. Turn 4s. Again BB bets 200 into the 1000 pot, and I call. What do I expect? The odds of my having any kind of decent outcome look pretty slim but the bets have been small and I can't seem to fold. River Jh. One more time BB bets 200 into the 1400 pot, and I finally decide it's time to get out of there, but it has cost me 600 chips!
Hand 152. We are still four players. Big stack has 6358 chips, I'm small stack w/2488 chips and the other two have 3208 and 2946 chips. I'm the SB w/3s 4c. UTG folds, BTN limps in w/200 bet, I call and BB checks. Flop 4d Js 6h. I have bottom pair. I'm 1st to bet and decide to be aggressive about it and bet 400 into the 600 pot. BB calls and BTN folds. Turn 3d. I get lucky and now have bottom two pair BUT the board does show a possible straight. I press forward and bet 900 into the 1400 pot. BB calls again. Not sure I like that but it is building up the pot for one of us! River 8s. Not a card I want to see as it provides for more straight options. Staying aggressive and since I only have 988 chips left, I decide to go for broke and bet all-in. BB calls leaving them w/720 chips. Uh oh, do they really have that straight???? They show Jd 5d, only a pair and probably going for the diamond flush draw. Woo Whooo I have 5176 chips and it looks good that I might make the money. Ah, but it's not over!!
Hand 156. I'm SB w/2c Jd. BB has 200 chips out and only 320 left. Action folds to me and I bet 400, and as I expected the BB raises all-in and I call. BB shows pocket 9's (9d 9s). I have one over card. Flop 3s Js 2s. I pair my J and duece and feel good about that and I don't think I really noticed that there were 3 spades there and that the BB had a flush draw. Turn As. Bingo for the BB he now has a nut flush. I have one last chance, I need a J or 2 on the River for a FH. River Qh. BB doubles up and can breathe a little. I'm still in pretty good shape though. Well I'd been lucky a few times on early hands, I guess it was my turn to be on the other end of it. :-)
Hand 181. Blinds 120/240/ante 25. Big stack has 6668 chips, I have 3026 chips and the other two have 2932 and 2324 chips. This is a hand where I should have said, relax and be patience for a bit longer, no one is in big danger of going out at this point, and neither am I!! Ah, but I didn't listen to that advice. I'm the BTN w/Kc 9c. UTG folds and I limp in, SB calls & BB checks. Flop 6s 5d Kd. I was hoping to see some clubs but that didn't happen. I do have top pair with a so-so kicker. SB checks and BB bets the pot of 820. I decide to be very aggressive and raise all-in, something I certainly didn't need to do. I was gambling he didn't have a K or if he did he'd have a lower kicker than mine, or that he was just betting to get me out of the hand. He calls and shows Ks Jd. I was wrong!! Turn 10h. River 2h. I'm down to 119 chips and a couple of hand later I'm out of there. Just a little bit of patience and waiting for better cards for that kind of aggressive play and I'd still be playing.
Anyway, it was a fun night. We haven't play for a few weeks. It would have nice to have more folks as coming in 3rd you're short $2 of the buy-in. Hope I learned something about my play!
