Wasn't sure what I wanted to play and saw this freeroll in late reg. Top 250 are entered into the $1,000 Weekly Freeroll, that already had 17,345 entries (top 30,000), with a $100 1st prize. Not big bucks here but a chance to play in a large field and maybe experiment a bit. I tended to play on the aggressive side when I could, but there were a lot of all-in's that kept me out of a lot of hands when I had only marginal cards that I'd have liked to check cheap flops on. Overall I did well and had a little over 11,000 chips at the end. The last hand I had pocket AA's but the board really said I should fold at the end. My opponent had been high stack and taken a couple of big hits and made calls and bets with some not very good hands. I'd hoped this might be one of them but it wasn't. His cards hit, my A's didn't.
Hand 52. I'm BB w/pocket A's (Ah Ad). I'm hoping that this player who has been opening with around 5000 opening bets does so this time as I finally have some cards to challenge him with. Action folds to him and this time he only limps in w/a bet of 60. CO calls. I'm thinking it doesn't look like I'll get much out of this hand, SB folds and I raise to 3 BB (180) hoping maybe that will encourage him to bet more. He & CO call. Flop 10s 6s 6d. Hmm, might he have trips? I check and he bets 1680, CO folds, and I decide to just call. I'm not sure if he has something or not but decide to play cautious.
I don't know if a strong reraise would have stopped him or not as I've seen him go big just hoping on a draw with very weak cards. Turn 10c. Board has two pairs. Not good for me. Again I check and so does he. Hmmm, what might that mean? River Kh. The only card I wanted to see on the River was really another Ace to give me a nice FH. As is, with those cards showing and knowing a bit about how he has been playing he could have hit anywhere. I bet a little over a 3rd of the pot (1650 into 3930) and he goes all in. Since I didn't check the River, which I feel would have been my best choice, then I should have folded his all-in bet. Instead I decide to gamble that he doesn't have anything and I call. Too bad. He shows 9c 10h. He had a FH on the Turn and just checked it. However, from the flop it wasn't looking that good for my A's and my best bet would have been to just get out of that hand and lick my wounds.
Except for how I handled that last hand, as I said earlier, I felt I played decently.
