Wow one of those where things just didn't go my way! Only 15 hands against a player who had a play money tournament in his list of upcoming sessions and a freeroll. He tended to bet in odd fashion so it was hard to get a good feel of what he had. The bad news hands.
Hand 5. I had pocket 4's he opened with a 4 BB bet from the button and I called. The flop was 5s 7c Ks I made a min bet and he raised me to 340 and I decided to fold. He showed me his pocket 2's. Maybe that was an early sign of what was to come. :-/
Hand 7. I had 5d 6d and just called his limp. Flop 3s Ah 3h. I bet the pot (40) to see what he'll do and he has folded some hands to raises. He raises me twice my bet.I call. 6c falls on the turn giving me a pair with the boards' pair. He bets 120 and I call feeling he doesn't have the Ace nor a 3 for a set. River is an 8. I check and he checks. The river paired hsi 8 to go with his paired 6 on the turn. I lose. Now basically on that hand I'd have been best to fold earlier when he made the 120 bet on the turn and maybe just as well folding on the flop. I have pretty weak cards and though the 6 hit my kicker isn't very good either. My brain seems to be thinking that he isn't that great of a player instead of deciding what is best even with a not great player in terms of the cards I had.
Hand 9. I was the BB with Ks 6s and just called his limp. Flop Kc 4d 2s. Not too bad for my K but I wish I had a better kicker. I check and he bets 20, I call. Turn 2d pairing the board. He checks & I check. River 3h. Since I've heard little from him I bet the pot of 80. To my surprise he doubles my bet to 160.Not giving him credit for having anything I call. He shows Kh 2h having hit a FH on the turn. OK another one that didn't go my way AND one I didn't think enough about what my opponent might have based on the texture of the board.
Hand 10, my J4o beat his J7s and I got a few of my chips back. A few hands later comes the last hand.
Hand 15. In BB I have 7s 5s and call his 3BB (60) bet. Flop Js 9h 9s. I bet 1/2 pot (60) to check him out and going for a flush draw and he doubles me to 120. I call without giving it much thought nor considering what he might have. I'm on a flush draw!! Turn 3s and I hit my flush. I bet the pot (360) hoping he also didn't hit the flush and if he only had one spade in his hand, hopefully get him off of a flush draw on the river. He goes all in and if I call will puts me all in as well. I think about it a bit and decide to call hoping he doesn't have the flush. He turns up his cards and YEAH he doesn't. He has Ah 9c, just trips and it looks pretty good me as long as the board doesn't pair.
I forgot about one other out he has that showed up on the river 9d and he hits QUADS. Over and out for me!! Grrrrrr. As is often said, "That's poker folks." Glad this was only a $1 session.
Lessons learned, 1) be careful at underestimating your opponent and 2) take better care in your card selection.
